Character: Adia Connor
Based on: Guenever
Age: 25
Occupation: Clerk in a gift shop full of pricey rustic things for tourists.
Bio: Adia grew up between Bethlehem, Allentown, and Pittsburg, owing to a family predisposition towards mining and steel works. Eventually she escaped to New York by going to Bard for college. This was intended to get her a good job in poli.sci., but what happened instead was that she graduated and found herself a) extremely short on money to pay for grad school, and b) having weird nightmares that left her sleepless, nervous, and unable to concentrate. Also migraines. On the doctor's recommendation (she was no longer relying on her family) she moved to Britannia and got a silly job and is sporadically attending Phoenix University online while relaxing somewhat (at least there are fewer dreams). That's about where things stand now.
Personality: Adia is cheerful, friendly, and likes to hang out with people. She's very personable, which is a good thing for someone working as a cashier, and loves being surprised. For her twenty-first birthday her then-boyfriend and some of their friends told her they were going out for beer, then took her off to Central Park where they proceeded to sit by the lake and have champagne and fried chicken and strawberry ice cream cake. It was the best day ever. That is the kind of thing she loves.
Sample Post: She woke up soaking wet and crying, and immediately got out of bed, feeling her way through the dark to the bathroom. It was an old apartment and the sink kept backing up, but she filled it with cold water anyway and dunked her face in it. She hated these dreams. She couldn't even ever really remember what she was dreaming about. Except that it was scary and always really, really hot--and then she'd wake up sweating, even now, in the middle of December.
It wasn't fair. It really wasn't fair, when she could have been working two jobs and going to school and staying in NYC with her friends, that she'd had to come out here and try to take things slow and "slow" actually meant "so boring she wanted to cry".
"Come on, come on," she said, grabbing at the towel by the light through the window and drying her face. Better to-morrow. Always better to-morrow. For now she'd just take one of the sleep pills the doctor had prescribed and try to go back to sleep. Eventually things were going to be fine.
She was damn well going to make them that way.
